Justice?

WARNING: I'm going to talk about the movie Law Abiding Citizen. If you haven't watched it and plan on it please stop reading now!

I will be honest and tell you that I wanted to watch the movie because I like both main actors, Jamie Foxx and Gerard Butler. Yes, I picked a movie because of who was in it and I had no clue what it was about. It was about Justice. Well, justice was served, deadly, bloody and NASTY!!

Do you watch Community? Did you see the episode where Jeff helped Annie and the debate team? The debate was good v. evil. Well, I kept thinking about that episode as I watched the movie. Why, you wonder? Because I enjoyed watched people sarcastically debate good v. evil and I didn't enjoy watching a vivid movie about it. Maybe I wasn't in the mood? Maybe I wasn't expecting such a gruesome story? I'm not really sure. I just didn't enjoy the death and destruction.

I will say the writer's did a good job (except for the murdering parts). Jamie Foxx plays the good guy but he's hard to like. Gerard Butler plays the bad guy that is avenging the death of his wife and daughter, which makes you wonder if he's really that bad. Umm...yeah! He's really that bad!

I will not be watching that movie again. It gets an "Eeehh" rating from me.

Welcome to my world

I'll try to give you a bit of insight into my mind, my life and the purpose of my blog. I love entertainment! LOVE IT! I thoroughly enjoy movies, music, literature and on occassion, the telly. I love to get lost in a book. I love being taken to another place, another time and for a few special moments of each day, living through the pages of a book. The magic of a well written story has captivated me for most of my life and as I have aged my love for these special times has only grown. It's the same with movies and music, too.

I know this is going to sound weird but...here goes. Books, movies and music are like friends to me. When I read a book or watch a movie for the firs time I usually find someone or something to connect with and it seems...strangely familiar. I know that most people connect with entertainment in some way, this billion dollar industry doesn't exist for giggles! I wish I had the writing skills to express how deeply connected I feel to the books I read, the movies I watch or the songs I listen to. I don't have amazing skills so I'll just try to inform and maybe make you laugh.

I recently met a guy that is studying to become a Sommelier (or in "Dyer terms" Wine Guru). He was telling about the classes he was taking and how he hated for people to tell him about wine before he got a chance to taste it. He said he would rather have an open mind and create his own opinions instead of trying to taste what they thought he should be tasting. He was telling a story of when he was at a wine tasting recently. He was the youngest guy there and he took a sip and said the first thing that came to his mind, "It tastes like Fruit Loops." Ummm....apparently that's the WRONG thing to say at a wine tasting. Welcome to my world! I usually say the wrong thing, too!

Well, I kind of feel the same way about all venues of entertainment. I would so much rather watch a movie and form my own opinions instead of trying to experience what others think I should experience. I really try not to read any critiques of movies, books or music. I just want to experience them...but I would like to share my thoughts, feelings and suggestions with you guys. And to top it off, I'll throw in a few random ramblings, too.

And in closing, "Music is the glue of the world, Mark. It's what holds it all together. Without this, life would be meaningless." - Eddie, Empire Records
